When I was lying in the mental hospital, I really wanted to tell everyone a story. Everyone thought it was my hallucination, but every time I closed my eyes, the blood-colored characters on the pale yellow wall of Zhongshan Hospital, the mottled signboard, and the shrill screams every night gave me an indescribable sense of reality. In 1984, I graduated from a medical college. At that time, I wanted to live in the beautiful countryside. The simple folk customs and fresh air have always been what I yearned for. One day I saw an advertisement in the newspaper saying that a hospital was recruiting a doctor. This hospital was built next to the mountain and is a veritable rural hospital. In addition, its scenery is quite beautiful.

When I was lying in the mental hospital, I really wanted to tell everyone a story. Everyone thought it was an illusion, but every time I closed my eyes, the blood-red characters on the pale yellow wall of Zhongshan Hospital, the mottled signboard, and the shrill screams every night gave me an indescribable sense of reality.

In 1984, I graduated from a medical college. At that time, I wanted to live in a beautiful countryside. The simple folk customs and fresh air have always been what I yearned for. One day, I saw an advertisement in the newspaper, saying that a hospital was recruiting a doctor. This hospital was built beside a mountain and was a veritable rural hospital. In addition, the scenery was quite beautiful and the villagers were warm and hospitable. I was very happy after seeing it and set off the next day.

The train roared through the dense forest and stopped in front of a simple station. I got off the train. On the platform, a sign was held high with three big characters written on it, which was very conspicuous. When I got closer, I saw my name, "Zhou Dingguo".

The person holding the sign is the hospital director and the only doctor in the hospital, Sun Xiaolan. She is very young and beautiful. She graduated from a medical university in Beijing and came here to be a doctor with the ideal of supporting the mountainous areas. But there is not even a hospital here. She built a few tiled houses with the help of the locals.

The road is not far, just over the hill. Zhongshan Hospital is built in the southwest corner of the village, with a few houses next to the mountain and four big characters "Zhongshan Hospital" carved on the rock.

I was placed in a room closest to the mountain. It was dark inside, but very tidy. The only bad thing was that there was always a strange smell in the air, like something rotting.

The next day, I went to the dean's room to ask for instructions on work. She showed me around those shabby rooms. She asked me to work hard in a hopeful tone. I nodded seriously. To be honest, I didn't come here with the ambition to save the people and support the mountainous areas. I just wanted to find a beautiful place to escape the troubles of the world. But she told me a lot about the poverty in the mountainous areas, the suffering of the people in the mountainous areas, etc. These aroused my strong sympathy, and I immediately felt a boiling blood. When I raised my eyes, I found that Xiaolan's beautiful face had become more beautiful.

A week passed, and there were not many patients. The few who did come were just suffering from colds. I was bored! There wasn't much work here, and one person could always come here to do it. Why should I hire someone? When I was free, I would go out for a stroll and enjoy the beauty of nature. Apart from the problem of food and accommodation, I had a very comfortable life. I thought I had made a very correct decision to come to such a paradise on earth. But soon I realized that this was not a paradise, but a hell in hell.

One day, I found Xiaolan. I had to ask for leave from this beautiful leader because I wanted to go back for a few days. At first, I thought it was no problem to ask for leave. But Xiaolan refused and said something serious. Then she paused and said in an unusual voice: "In a few days, it will be the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the moon will be very bright." After she said this, she looked out the window and became dazed.

In the afternoon, when I was taking a nap, I smelled the strange smell again. I thought it was something rotting at the foot of the mountain and didn't pay much attention to it.

Until that night…

I slept very late every day. When I closed the window facing the mountain and blew out the dim yellow flickering oil lamp, a scream came from the inside of the mountain. It seemed to be the scream of some creature dying. I suddenly thought of the smell of rotting corpses that I smelled every day. I felt that there was a connection between the two, and I felt an inexplicable fear.

The next day, I found Xiaolan and told her about the noise I heard last night and the strange smell in the house. She told me that this was normal, that smell was common in every mountain, it was the smell of the mountain. As for the cry, it might be caused by some wild animals hitting the traps on the mountain.

Then she smiled at me and said, "You think too much." When I was intoxicated by this spring-like smile, I suddenly felt that there was something hidden in her smile, and I also found myself liking this beautiful smile.

It was night again, and there was the smell of decay and the screams. I couldn't sleep. I listened to the so-called sound of the beast all night long. As I listened, I was frightened by my own thoughts. I heard the sound clearly in this dark night. It was not the sound of a beast, but a human! It was the last sound made by a human when he encountered the horror that had never been seen in the world. That smell was undoubtedly the smell of a human, the smell of a dead person. Ah! It turns out that I fall asleep every day breathing the smell of a corpse. Xiaolan's strange smile appeared in my mind again. She must have a certain relationship with this horror – I thought painfully.

The moonlight quietly crept in through the slightly opened window. I walked out of the window and looked at the moon's golden face. Soon I found that the moon also had the same strange smile as Xiaolan. It was very bright because it would be the 15th of August in a few days. And the horror began just like that…

August 15th.

I quietly climbed up the mountain from the other side to take a look. I knew that this place must have been cursed by a mysterious force. Because on the mountain, on that desolate and uninhabited mountain, I saw something, the most horrifying thing in the world. I really can't describe it accurately. On the top of the mountain, that is, a piece of barren mountain near where I live.

I really saw something, it seemed like a face, but I couldn't see the facial features, it wasn't a human face, it was full of hatred. The object seemed to move, it was a kind of ethereal power, from which I felt that the strange plants around me were oozing out curses, it was an extremely terrible curse.

I experienced the kind of horror that I had long known about and that had never been seen before in the world. I ran down the mountain like crazy, and I didn't dare to look back, because I knew that the power behind me was chasing me. But when I was about to escape from the forest, I heard the familiar screams that lingered in my ears every day. I turned my head unconsciously, and I saw the mysterious object more clearly. The strange shape was more like the appearance of death – this is the only way I can describe the mysterious object. I couldn't move at all in the face of the horror that had never been seen in the world.

This state lasted only a few seconds, but I felt that my life was only that long. As soon as I found that my hands and feet could move again, I ran out without thinking. I was about to run out of that gloomy world. But after running for a long time, I still couldn't see the edge of the forest. I was scared and felt that my life was about to be swallowed by this horror. But I still ran desperately.

I felt a chill on the back of my neck, and I knew I couldn't shake off the curse, so I didn't look back. Then I felt something wet on the back of my neck, and I looked at the vague shadow on the ground and saw that there was something behind me.

I looked back and saw that the ghost of fear was afraid of death . It had a distorted face, pale and scary, a mysterious face. It was licking with its long tongue. When I turned back, the tongue licked my pale face. I smelled it, that smell, the smell of death. I only heard a loud "pop" and then I lost consciousness.

When I woke up, it was already night. I was still sleeping in my room that smelled of death.

The moon stuck out her long tongue from the window against the mountain. I remember what happened in the morning very clearly. I know this is not an ordinary mountain village, nor is this an ordinary hospital. This is hell, and Xiaolan is the most beautiful and the most terrifying object in hell. This hospital must be hiding something. The strong curiosity gave me courage I never had before. At this time, Xiaolan walked in slowly on the moonlight with that weird smile – the moonlight that was too bright. I couldn't help but show panic on my face, but I couldn't open my mouth. I touched my face with my hand and found that it was wrapped by something. Then I pulled hard. The ghost of fear is afraid of death , and I wanted to get rid of the seals that imprisoned my brain. Xiaolan grabbed my hand, and I knew she would not let me go so easily.

She said to me in a very strange tone: "Are you crazy? Why are you pulling off the bandage?" There must have been confusion in my eyes, "What's wrong with me?" I couldn't help but talk to myself, although I knew she would not tell me the truth. Sure enough, she said to me: "You were scratched by a wolf in the mountains. Fortunately, a hunter passed by and killed the wolf to save you from the gates of hell." I struggled to sit up, Xiaolan came up to help me, and I felt her trembling the moment her hand touched me. I didn't understand why. And I actually felt a burst of sweetness at that moment. I walked to the window, looked at the unusually bright moonlight, and said to Xiaolan: "I can't remember anything about this morning." She smiled: "Don't worry, it's just a mild concussion, you will be fine after a few days of rest."

At half past ten in the evening, the moonlight was brighter. At my repeated request, Xiaolan and I walked to the hospital. It was two very simple tiled houses, dilapidated and squatting at the foot of the mountain. The moonlight brought that cry again, a shrill, terrifying cry. At this time, I was standing in front of the window with her support. After hearing it, I tried my best to suppress my trembling body and soul. I looked at her and saw that she was staring at the moonlight in a daze. That expression gave me a very familiar feeling, just like the mysterious face on the top of the terrifying mountain in the morning. I suddenly had an urge to take Xiaolan to see that face.

I suddenly said, "I want to go to the mountain we went to this morning. Will you accompany me?" A look of horror immediately appeared on her face, and she shook her head vigorously, "No! It's so late. Why are you going?"

"Nothing, I just wanted to check it out!" I hurriedly covered up my uneasiness. Dong! Dong! Someone knocked on the door. Xiaolan went out to open the door. It was Sun Er who came to see the doctor. After they entered the back room, I went to Xiaolan's room to look for my fear.

As soon as I entered the room, I was hit by the smell of death. Although this room was extremely simple, it was beautifully decorated. My eyes kept searching the room, and suddenly my eyes stopped on a plaque. On it were four blood-red characters "Zhongshan Hospital". This was very inconsistent with the layout of the room, and I felt strange. I wanted to take it down, but I found that I couldn't take it off no matter how hard I tried. I tried to turn it to both sides, and suddenly I heard a sound. It was the sound of a mechanism being opened. I opened it, but what I opened was the door to hell.

It was pitch black there, and I couldn't see anything. I didn't dare to move, and tried to recall how I fell, but I couldn't remember anything. Just as I was puzzled, a sound came from far ahead. I tilted my head slightly, listening to the strange sound.

The sound was strange, like the sound of a cabbage being cut with a knife. I was curious and started to move my shaking legs. After a few steps, I was tripped by something. I reached out to touch the soft thing, but suddenly I retracted my hand like lightning – I knew it was a corpse! It was a corpse! My sick brain was thinking quickly: How could there be a corpse in Xiaolan's room? I remembered the shrill screams every night and the mysterious object on the top of the mountain. Could there be some connection here? My heart was beating violently in this endless darkness and the smell of the corpse.

From afar, I heard the sound of cabbage being cut. Although the abnormal sound was very faint, it mercilessly struck my heart in terror. My feet touched the corpse again, and I found that the corpse was only half dead. I listened to the faint sound again: swish…swish, my heart almost jumped out of my chest. That abnormal sound must be the sound of a corpse being torn apart, which means that something was tearing the corpse apart in front of me. A shrill cry rang in my ears again, very loud, really loud, and my eardrum almost broke, but I seemed to hear nothing, and was driven forward by a force! I knew that hell was in front of me, but my feet did not listen to me and took me to hell! After walking for about ten minutes, I found that there were corpses lying on the ground, and I would be tripped by those half-bodies every few steps.

Although I couldn't see it, I could imagine that this was a tomb in hell. There were corpses everywhere, and the corpses were cruelly torn apart. The ground was full of internal organs. And I was in this hell in hell, and I walked towards the devil. When I walked to a wall, I couldn't stop the fear in my heart and screamed. The voice was very familiar, and it was the voice I heard every night. It turned out that many people had experienced such horror like me and screamed loudly.

I looked forward, and behind the wall was a slaughterhouse shrouded in moonlight, very small, so small that I could see the whole thing at a glance. I was panting in this place that was almost full of corpses.

I didn't see anything, which made me feel even more strange. I didn't understand where the sound that tore my heart apart just now came from. It wouldn't come out of nowhere, I imagined. Maybe that unknown object was right next to me, and it could take my life away from this world at any time. I heard that sound again, hissing, hissing. I tilted my head slightly and heard it was behind me. I slowly turned my head back, but I couldn't see anything. After a while, I stopped my gaze on a shadow under the moonlight, and I found that the object seemed to move.

My limbs began to go numb again. I couldn't move my eyes and could only stare at the terrifying object, watching it gradually emerge from the shadows with its mysterious and strange figure. In its mouth (if it could be called a mouth), it held a leg. It was sucking the blood from the leg with a wheezing sound, and blood was dripping from its mouth from time to time. I felt an inexplicable calm facing it, although behind the calm was all the fear in the world.

At this time, the stone wall behind the object slowly opened up, and Xiaolan walked out silently with her usual smile and a pace as strange as that smile. She told me something in a strange voice: @#$@%#^$^$@$@. I couldn't hear anything, but I only saw the tongue of the object stretched out and wrapped around my neck. I suffocated and went into shock. Terror went from my esophagus to my whole body and wandered through my internal organs…

After I opened my eyes, I saw Xiaolan sitting beside my bed in my room, giving me a smile that I will never forget. I roared, it was that voice again. I rushed towards that beautiful horror, even though I knew I was doomed…

The above text was dictated to me by a friend of mine. He was lying in a mental hospital and suffered from mental illness. I didn't know the details of his condition, but the doctor told me that everything he saw was his hallucination. He kept telling this weird story to every friend who visited him every day. A few months later, I was curious and went to the mountain village he mentioned, but I couldn't find the beautiful Xiaolan. According to the locals, the girl never came back since my friend threw sulfuric acid on her face and disfigured her.

I was led by the locals to the forest again. I really seemed to hear that kind of shrill cry in my ears. I really seemed to see something in that particularly cold forest. I turned back to look at the guide, who was really looking at me with a strange smile. I felt that this place was really strange. At night, the moon was also unusually bright. Under the moonlight, I couldn't help but wonder why Xiaolan disappeared inexplicably, and why the air here had a strange smell, just like Dingguo said, a smell of rotting corpses.

Could it be that what Dingguo said was true? Did he go crazy after experiencing that series of things, or did he go crazy first and then see that series of strange things? I think it is difficult to tell the truth from the false on this absurd earth. I don’t know what will be true, nor do I know what is false. Of course, I don’t know whether Dingguo is crazy or all of us are crazy. I seem to be trapped in a vicious circle. What is going on? I walked out the door, and the moonlight became brighter, illuminating the blood-colored words on the mountain wall – Zhongshan Hospital. At this time, a smell came to my nose, the smell of a rotting corpse, and I actually heard the shrill cry in horror. I really heard it, it was really scary. I suddenly remembered something, and when I turned around, I saw a face smiling in the air and slowly floating towards me…
